Types Of Truck Driving License In Australia

There are different kinds of licenses to be obtained depending upon the vehicle you are planning to drive. And, each of these licenses requires the driver to be thoroughly comfortable with the handling of controls in the said vehicle as well as all the road safety rules levied by the Australian government.
Here is the list of licenses required to drive different vehicles on the Australian roads:
  • For smaller four wheelers like cars, vans or smaller vehicles, which can accommodate up to 12 adults, one need to apply for a license in the category ‘car license’.
  • Though just getting a car driving license does not allow you to drive cars. You also need to get professional training of driving it safely on the road.
  • Australian government gives out separate licenses for those who want to try out their skills as bus drivers with buses to run on their own.
  • The bigger vehicles are divided into three categories- LR or the light rigid vehicle of above 4.5 tonnes, MR or medium rigid vehicle, up to 8 tonnes of weight and the heavy rigid vehicles or HR of above 8 tonnes weight. Each of these categories is kept separately and licenses are supplied individually for all these vehicles.
  • For attaching trailers carry heavier load like cars and other bigger items from the industries, the licenses are divided into two categories, to facilitate easy identification. HC or heavy combination and the MC or multi combination licences are given out on request to those who want to drive these trailers.
Since each vehicle involves different sorts of handling and controls, providing with these different driving licenses facilitates the drivers to be completely well versed in handling them.
If you are planning to apply for any of the above licenses, pick out a good driving school to get good training and assessment to make you an expert in driving the vehicle of your choice.
